Draughts in the 20th c.

In England and the United States draughts was still very popular in the first decades of the 20th c., then the game almost vanished. In 20th c. Germany, maybe already in the 19th c., draughts got the status of a children’s game; in the centuries before books on the game were published. In France draughts fell into decline after the second World War, when there came no successors of the great champions of the past. In Belgium, the many houses bearing the name of Dutch dambord or French damier could point to a rich former draughts life.
